A preview of the mesh based particle system and procedural materials system for an in-development open-world virtual reality game. The idea is to render as many meshes and materials as possible while still keeping the frame rate at a good 90fps (minimum for VR), and to apply generated textures to objects based on their in-game properties (organic, technical, etc.).

Developed in Unity on a GTX 980 Ti.

WASDQE + Mouse to move, Arrow Keys to control the menu.

  • Update (22mb): Removed the limit of 2000 meshes per material. Meshes can now be added as long as the average fps is 60 or above, and the camera is aimed at the center of the sphere.
  • Update 2 (105mb): Added a water surface shader.

Max mesh counts (single type, no particles, water off) for 980Ti: Solid: 12200, Overlay: 12100, Color: 8600, Color Blended: 5900, Textured: 6100.
