DesertRacer

Post by Ypser »

Hello world,

some years ago i made a simple Sprite3D engine just for fun. Now i finally found some time to make a little demo game out of it (called "DesertRacer").

It is a simple rallye race game where you just try to drive a fast lap on a desert circuit.

Here are some screens:

(the menu in the download is in english)

And here's the download: DesertRacer_eng.zip (2,9 MB)

Have fun and perhaps post your lap times! :D
My best lap is a 01:21.3 so far...

Edit: Compiled as x86.

Awesome example of what you can do with PureBasic! :) Well done. I liked playing it.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Really great. :D
Did you say "Sprite3D engine" because you build it around the Sprite3D lib ?
Did you make the skybox just using big PB sprites around the terrain area ?

Yes it's all only transformed Sprite3D's.
The sky box is a large box (2x2 Sprites each side) which is moving with the cam and displayed independent of its distance to it.
The terrain is Sprite3Ds, too. Placed via the height map bmp. And then there are some trees and objects and dust billboards.
That's it.

New lap: 01:20.8

Yeah, I had a lot of fun testing this earlier today :) an excellent example of what PB is capable of in a good pair of hands. Nice job Ypser!

Unfortunately, I am nowhere near as fast as you with the laptimes hehehe and I am not going to embarrass myself further by saying what they were LMAO

It is a lot of fun, it made me kind of dizzy though.
I was trying to get under 2:00 minutes but I didn't quite make it.

Interesting.. The handling is too loose for my taste, even for a Rally setup. Just too hard to stay on the track at a decent speed.

But glad to see someone making 3D games with Purebasic
