Doesn’t being chased around all night by zombies in the abandoned neighborhoods and factories of Detroit sound like enough to raise anyone from the dead?
This fantasy could become reality as part of the Detroit Works Project, which strives to create a “blueprint that redefines the physical, social, and economic landscape” of Detroit.
Entrepreneur Marc Siwak, the mind behind the proposed zombie-themed amusement park, launched a fundraising campaign to finance walling off approximately 200 acres to stimulate a full-out zombie apocalypse.
According to Siwak’s website, “Z World Detroit will be a unique and spectacular zombie themed experience park that will transform a virtually neglected section of Detroit, Michigan. Participants will be chased by a growing zombie horde through abandoned factories, stores and homes across hundreds of derelict urban acres.”
“It would be a structured game, so you’d have a group of, I guess for lack of a better term, professional zombies that would get the game started and they would assimilate the rest as the zombie horde grows,” Siwak told CBS Detroit.
As of Tuesday Siwak raised $7,202 of his $145,000 goal. The zombie fanatic will only accept pledged money if he meet his financial target by August 10.
Siwak said that rather than abandoning sections of the city, Detroit should redevelop the city’s ramshackle downtown.
Z World Detroit was inspired by Detroit’s Heidelberg Project, a renovated east-side street that became a huge destination art installation.
